Crave-ing the Heights (Part II)
by Sheliza Mitha
A simple walk through the Heights is all it really takes to create that constant craving, not for k.d. lang’s award-winning song of the same name (which is fantastic) but to try all the tempting cafes and restaurants (equally fantastic) in this charming neighbourhood.
Fortunately, the Heights has created a special event to help satisfy these cravings – it’s called Crave. (Appropriate, I know.) Continue reading →

Glenburn Soda & Confectionery Revisits the 1940s
by Sheliza Mitha
To say that Glenburn Soda & Confectionery is an old-fashioned soda “shoppe” and ice cream parlour is as much of an understatement as saying Vancouverites are partial to their coffee. Truthfully, Glenburn Soda is just so much more.
More than sodas and ice cream, Glenburn offers a truly unique experience. Simply walk into Glenburn Soda in the heart of the Burnaby Heights, and you’ll be instantly transported to another era… the 1940s to be precise. Continue reading →

Crave at Burnaby Heights
by Sheliza Mitha
Everyone knows that you don’t have to be a foodie to appreciate a good Crave. Whether you like the tame or the spicy, the savoury or the sweet, you’ll find it all at Crave – a celebratory, three-day culinary event that only comes around once a year to the historic Burnaby Heights neighbourhood. This year, Crave takes place from Tuesday, April 23 to Thursday, April 25.
Now in its second year, the upcoming Crave event boasts more than a dozen restaurants… and counting. From casual meals to fine dining experiences, Crave can oblige. Each participating restaurant offers various options as part of their set menus at $15, $20 and $25 price points. Continue reading →

The Art of the Afternoon Tea
by Fanny
There is no better way of spending an afternoon than with good company, a pot of your favourite tea, and an array of locally made treats.
The tradition of afternoon tea is rooted from centuries ago, and though its form continues to develop and change with time, it is always a treat for those that enjoy afternoon tea on a frequent basis or for the first time. While there is much stigma surrounding the proper etiquette that is required, do not be afraid – creating your own tea party can be as casual or as fancy as you make it to be. Continue reading →

Savouring the Horizon
by Sheliza Mitha
Without a doubt – and objectively speaking – there are a handful of spots in our city that boast seemingly endless panoramic vistas. The panoramic views from Burnaby Mountain are among them. Pair this with a meal at Horizons – one of the most notable fine dining restaurants in the city – and you have an unforgettable evening of exceptional cuisine, excellent service and extraordinary views of Burnaby, downtown Vancouver, the surrounding inlet and the majestic North Shore Mountains. It’s a unique combination that will truly take your breath away.

THE BREWMASTERS DINNER
by Jonathan
When Micah Noble decided to completely change his friendly neighbourhood pub, “The Stone Throw” five years ago, he was met with some negativity.
“We were told we would be bankrupt within six months”, says Noble.”
Why all the negativity? Because Noble was giving his pub a facelift, changing the name to the “Hop and Vine” and completely changing his menu from regular every day beer to “Craft Brews.” Continue reading →

Private Tasting at Cactus Club
by Lima Al-Azzeh
There are chains, there are franchises, and then there’s the Cactus Club, a restaurant that has received the magic touch from famous chef Rob Feenie – the fairy Godmother, or Godfather rather, it seems, of casual dining.
Together with the great team at Tourism Burnaby and with my fellow bloggers, we were invited to the Cactus Club in North Burnaby (Lougheed Highway) for a rare treat: a private tasting of Chef Feenie’s signature dishes along with a carefully curated selection of wine pairings. Lucky us! Continue reading →
