Culture Days: Burnaby Mosaic 2011

Each fall season brings with it a cooler climate and a welcomed mix of activities and events: harvest festivals, Halloween events, Thanksgiving and now… Culture Days. Coast to coast, from the tip of Prince Edward Island to the western coast of Vancouver Island, the second annual Culture Days event aims to raise the awareness and accessibility of local arts and culture by encouraging the public to participate in a variety of free, interactive arts and cultural activities in their communities. Ohanashi – The Story of our Elders + Hi Genki Restaurant

Tucked away between Kingsway and Sperling in Burnaby, on Southoaks Crescent, lies a little taste of Japan. There you’ll find the Japanese Canadian National Museum, located in the National Nikkei Heritage Centre. The Heritage Centre is one of the most interesting buildings I’ve seen in Burnaby…think modern meets Japanese elegance. The garden that surrounds the Centre is reminiscent of a traditional Japanese garden, full of Bonsai trees, a pond and a tranquil waterfall. And yes, all this exists near the Edmonds skytrain!!!
