Dine Out Vancouver 2012 – Horizons Restaurant and Reflect Social + Dining Lounge

The 10th anniversary of the Dine Out Vancouver festival is set to roll our on January 20th, 2012 and the reservations are rolling in at mach speed, not surprising considering the great value of these three course dinners as well as the diverse selection of participating restaurants. Among them will be two of Burnaby’s finest eateries: Horizons Restaurant and Reflect Social and Dining lounge. The event ends on February 5th, 2012 so be sure to start booking.

Horizons Restaurant, Burnaby MountainThis is a great time to visit Horizons, as the restaurant recently completed its seven-month rebuilding campaign and is looking better than ever nestled atop Burnaby mountain. Renowned for its West Coast menu and specializing in alderwood grilled seafood and steaks, this restaurant should definitely be at the top of your list.

Horizons first opened its doors to eager patrons about 20 years ago, so it’s no surprise that they’ve held a steady place in the Dine Out selection for the last ten years, “It’s always been a positive experience for us”, says General Manager Diane Summers.

Executive Chef John Garrett’s creations have won him numerous accolades, and his experience at Horizons has even lead him to compile his creations into a beautiful cookbook, “HORIZONS the cookbook” (Whitecap books). Yet despite having won several awards, including “Best Fine Dining” and “Best Seafood” in Burnaby, his food philosophy remains endearingly humble, “Start with freshest ingredients, prepare them simply to enhance their natural flavors, and let those flavors shine through. It doesn’t have to be complicated to be good”.

Reflect Social Dining and Lounge

Reflect Social Dining + Lounge, BurnabyA familiar favorite for Tourism Burnaby bloggers, Reflect Social and Dining Lounge at the Hilton is yet another inviting, accommodating option in this year’s Dine Out selection. Bruce Stephen, Food and Beverage Director at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown, was brought on to the team just last year, and we’re excited to see how his considerable time in this business will shape this year’s Dine Out experience at Reflect.

Stephen especially notes that, “Classy, relaxing and luxurious best describes the decor and atmosphere at Reflect Social Dining + Lounge. Executive Chef, Tong Lim tastefully blends the flavours and spices of the West Coast with those of Europe and Asia creating an elegant yet approachable menu with a wide range of flavors”

Approachable being the operative word, and as a testament to just how approachable Reflect is, readers may want to check out fellow blogger, Sheliza Mitha’s, detailed retelling of her satisfying Dine Out experience at Reflect last year (with kids in tow!)

While we don’t have a full menu for Dine Out at Reflect, Stephen was kind enough to drop a delicious hint when we asked him if there were any particular specialties on the menu this year: “In a word … lamb! Paired with fine VQA reds!” Irresistible already.

The menu is offered at the great value of $28 and, as Sheliza’s blog post attests, diners can feel free to choose the Dine Out option mixed with a la carte dishes from Reflect’s wonderful menu.
