Staying on Track off Hastings
by Sheliza Mitha
In case you’re wondering about the title of this post, I’m not referring to the kind of track that involves betting and race horses. Rather, this track is considerably more kid-friendly: I’m referring to the Burnaby Central Railway’s miniature train at Confederation Park.

Friday Night Lights
by Sheliza Mitha
For what it’s worth, the title of this post could easily have read “Theatre Under the Stars” because that’s how we spent last Friday night, when a grassy area of SFU was turned into a free and family-friendly outdoor cinema.

Symphony in the Rain
by Nicole Clark
Dressed in rain gear and armed with umbrellas, an estimated 3,000 concert-goers came out to the Symphony in the Park on Sunday night.
“It’s a sea of umbrellas,” said Surrey resident Ingrid McKeown when arriving at the event. She has been going to see the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra perform at Deer Lake for the past eight years with her family. Continue reading →

The Tragically Hip and Hey Rosetta! At Deer Lake Park
by Lima Al-Azzeh
There’s something to be said for a rock band that gets you so excited to see them, you don’t mind standing out in the rain just to sing along with their music in person. The Tragically Hip is one such band. But they’re so much more, they’re a Canadian institution of music unto themselves, and that’s why hordes of people raced to Deer Lake Park last Friday night to watch the legends in action. The Solitudes of Place
by Sheliza Mitha
The Burnaby Art Gallery’s current exhibit – “The Solitudes of Place” by Ann Kipling – can be best described (in this writer’s modest opinion) as remarkably evocative and interpretive. Though Kipling’s drawings, at first glance, may seem simple and undemanding, some closer in-depth observation reveals a different story. Continue reading →

Burnaby’s Discovery Day
by Sheliza Mitha
This past Sunday, the annual Discovery Day Festival turned the normally calm and placid Deer Lake Park into a lively, thriving centre – bustling with people, games, music, dance, all manner of circus entertainment and much, much more. Continue reading →

Central Park Pitch & Putt – It’s a hole in one!
by Mana Mansour
Summer is finally here and what all Lower Mainland residents want is to be outside. For those that are looking for something a bit different than the beach or park, a day of affordable and fun golfing might be just the thing, with Burnaby’s beautiful Central Park Pitch and Putt as the perfect spot. Located very near to Metrotown Mall, just off Imperial Street, Central Park Pitch and Putt is an 18 hole course situated on a large stretch of wooden, lush forest. Continue reading →
