Every Saturday, something extraordinary happens at the Burnaby City Hall parking lot on the corner of Canada Way and Deer Lake Parkway.

For about five hours every weekend, the ordinary grey parking space is transformed with gleaming white canopies, shiny produce and a wonderful array of handmade and homemade arts, crafts, savoury treats and yummy pastries.  Oh wait, did I mention there’s also live music, face painting and two children’s play areas?  All of which lends itself to a lively and festive atmosphere for the whole family. August is on its way, which means so is the Burnaby Blues and Roots Festival. This year’s headliners include Taj Mahal (who recently played at Ottawa’s Bluesfest), Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Serena Ryder and more. One of the best ways to gear up for the annual festival however, is with Burnaby Blues Week – free live blues and roots entertainment at select venues throughout Burnaby. Continue reading →

The 21st Annual VSO Concert  in Deer Lake Park is this weekend!!  The concert will take place Sunday, July 11 from 7:30pm until 9:30pm.  Get there early to get prime parking and the best spot on the grass to lay out your blanket and picnic basket.  If you’ve never been to the VSO in Deer Lake Park, it really is a special experience.   Continue reading →
