Ohanashi – The Story of our Elders + Hi Genki Restaurant

ohanashiTucked away between Kingsway and Sperling in Burnaby, on Southoaks Crescent, lies a little taste of Japan. There you’ll find the Japanese Canadian National Museum, located in the National Nikkei Heritage Centre. The Heritage Centre is one of the most interesting buildings I’ve seen in Burnaby…think modern meets Japanese elegance. The garden that surrounds the Centre is reminiscent of a traditional Japanese garden, full of Bonsai trees, a pond and a tranquil waterfall. And yes, all this exists near the Edmonds skytrain!!! PlayOn!

Normally come June, the only hockey being played is on TV as the Stanley Cup finals are in full swing. And for those of us living in Burnaby, there hasn’t been a local team in that position since 1994. So what do we do? Well this past weekend (June 5th-6th) we could have gone down to Metrotown and taken part in Hockey Night in Canada’s Play On! It’s the biggest and best street hockey tournament and outdoor hockey festival in Canada.
